Couples Carrier Screening (620+ conditions) vs. Comprehensive Couples Screening (780+ conditions)

Both test panels detect more than 80% of couples who are at risk of having a child with a heritable condition.

Couples Carrier Screening (620+ conditions screened)

  • This provides a combined risk report only—individual carrier status reports are not included

  • This is not appropriate for couples with Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry

  • This requires a valid Medicare card

  • The turnaround time is 6-8 weeks (not recommended during pregnancy)

  • Hearing and vision loss conditions are not included

Comprehensive Carrier Screening (780+ conditions screened)

  • This screens for conditions common across multiple populations

  • This is recommended for those who need complete carrier status information, including:

  • Donor conception cases

  • Same-sex couples

  • Individuals

  • Those needing individual results alongside the couple report

  • This provides important reproductive information for siblings and extended family

  • This includes hearing and vision loss conditions

  • This can detect results that may affect fertility (e.g., CAVD with CFTR-related conditions)

  • This does not require a Medicare card
